Culture Through Literature in Paris

University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown French professors Barbara and David Petrosky are enjoying our "Culture Through Literature in Paris" program with 13 Pitt students this summer.

The program, which began on May 2nd and runs through the 30th, immerses students in the culture and cultural sites of Paris while they study the representation of Paris in French literature from the seventeenth century to the twentieth century.

Students also learn about the Lost Generation and how the city inspired American expatriates between 1880 and 1923.

The program, which the Petroskys began in 2015, features daily cultural excursions that familiarize students with the two-thousand-year history of the city and includes explorations of many museums, including the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée Carnavalet, and Giverny.

Next year, they will continue this immersive experience in the vibrant city of Barcelona.
