At the age of 20, when I was a science major here at Pitt-Johnstown, I had the amazing opportunity to intern at Walt Disney World in Orlando through their College Program. The experience was life changing for me, and set me on a brand new journey into learning more about the culture of organizations, how people manage effectively, what great leadership looks like, and how all of these decisions impact employees. Not only did I intend to learn all I could about why some organizations out-perform others (it might not be what you think, by the way!), I also knew that sharing this knowledge and building better leaders for the organizations our society needs in the future was critical. So, after over a decade of teaching management to students from traditional college-age to adult and continuing learners at both large universities like Auburn and small, private ones, I am still in pursuit of this goal. My previous professional employment with local family businesses like Sheetz, Inc. and larger publicly-traded firms like Wells Fargo has provided an excess of stories and experiences to share with my students about working in today’s organizations. And on top of teaching, I really get excited when I can help a student navigate their future career – reading resumes, networking, seeking internships, and negotiating job offers. When I’m not on campus, I am usually running one of my two daughters to their various activities or volunteering at their school, our parish, or within our local community of Ebensburg.
