Pitt-Johnstown's education division has produced numerous educators in the south-central Pennsylvania region and throughout the United States, as indicated on the maps below.
Pitt-Johnstown's education grads share their impressions of the program with the following testimonials:
“The Education Division at Pitt-Johnstown provided me with ample opportunities and environments to explore the world of teaching and practice my passion. With support and guidance from distinguished faculty and small cohort sizes, I was prepared to step into the real world and make a difference. The Division assisted me in constructing a pedagogical foundation from which I continue to build upon as an individual, professional, and as a life-long learner, and for that, I am forever grateful.”
Caitlin Wolford (Class of 2013)

“The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown's Education Division helped to prepare me for my career in public education by providing me with a supportive learning environment to learn about the best practices in education. The division placed me into wonderful classrooms where I had the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers who were there to guide me as I began my journey as teacher in their classrooms. Having the hands on experiences both during practicums and also throughout coursework was priceless. In the world of education, academic knowledge means nothing if it not applied. This application allows us as educators to reassess ourselves as well as our students to provide the best education possible. We are the difference-makers for our students, and UPJ opened my eyes to the wonderful possibilities that come alive in our classrooms.”
Jenna Lucas (Class of 2011)
Elementary Teacher, Virginia Beach, VA City Schools
“The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ) has developed an Education Division experience that is unmatched. UPJ, with its current development and implementation of the latest trends and methodologies in education, has created a comprehensive program that prepares teachers to meet the ever-changing, diverse needs of the twenty-first century classroom learner. From my experience in this program, I have been able to work both as a junior/senior high school teacher, serve as a mental health professional with a local contracting firm, and lead within the administrative framework as a high school assistant principal in the public school system.”
Casey Long (Class of 2007)
Assistant Principal, Penn Cambria High School, Cresson, PA
“As a non-traditional student, I was nervous to restart my education. From the moment I enrolled, every member of the faculty and staff made sure that I was on the right track. I was able to experience many different school settings throughout the observation/participation programs. My advisor made sure that when it came time to student teach I would be in a placement that would work well not only for my schedule, but also that of my family. The Pitt-Johnstown Education Division prepared me for success once I finished my program. I accepted a position as an Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth Classroom Teacher the Monday after the end of my final semester. After a year and a half in that position, I secured a position on the Pitt-Johnstown Admissions Team in which I still call on what I learned and the experiences I had as a student in order to succeed.”
Ryan Clancy (Class of 2013)
Pitt-Johnstown Admissions Counselor and former Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth teacher
